Listening to birds today, lending an ear to silences as much as to alerts, marveling, means enjoying what is left of their songs and finding consolation in them... as much as feeling our power to destroy. And that is the whole adventure of sensitivity in this damaged world that needs to be reconsidered.
Svetlana Alexievitch
The horrifying Francine and Georgine (freely inspired by species of power that are not endangered, unfortunately) come to class to present their new recipe: spaghetti sauce with birds! This demonic duo embodies all that is evil and disgusting, and their cruelty knows no bounds. But as they proceed with their lesson, the voices of the birds interfere and revolt with their growing songs. The two villains find themselves confused and turned upside down: their plan is sabotaged, and the birds escape. La révolte des zozios is a carnivalesque fable that invites us to question human domination over living creatures by listening to our surroundings in a different, inventive, and sensitive way.
The bird raises the question of the “living,” of the ways in which the living make itself heard and be heard; it raises the question of the expenditure, of the marvelous, of what beauty does to the world and in the world. It also raises the question of the voice, and therefore of the articulation of a voice and a thought, in other words, of language, nothing less.
